Follow the Leader

Wow.  So, oviously I haven't posted on this in awhile.  I've completely focused my energy into my other blog.  So, for the 2 or 3 of you who read this one from time to time, make sure you follow my OTHER blog!

I know, I know.  I post all my blog posts to FaceBook, but  FB doesn't tell me who's reading!  And I like to think there are people out there reading it!  After all, 1500 hits so far (not all of them mine) means someone's listening.

For now, I will say that things are going great here on the homefront.  Kids are happy and healthy.  Husband is happy and healthy.  I'm sick and in mourning (the 2 things are not related), but that's ok.  It's all part of the process, I guess.

I think I watched too many scary thrillers tonight.  No panic attack, but felt the need to watch something a little less gripping before bed - You Again... again.  :)

So, like I said, please follow my other blog.  I have plenty of ways you can (not just through Goggle+).  Leave me comments!  I love to hear from you.

Hugs and Kisses all around!  XOXOXO

Update; May the 4th be with you!

I have started a new blog, going with the cha-cha-changes from my last entry.  It's http://someoneelsesgenius.blogspot.com. I've been adding to that one pretty regularly, so check it out!

This blog will stand as a more personal blog, letting you know how things are going in life.

Like yesterday.  I literally flipped out.  I couldn't sleep for the longest time, due to stress... mainly about money.

I'm the "financial advisor" for our family.  I [attempt to] keep track of our bills, how much we are spending, when the Hubs gets paid, etc.  A job I, coincidentally, took over from my dad, who had the unfortunate job of trying to keep not one, but two compulsive buyers in check.

The Hubs has the incessant need to buy new movies and video games.  He works at Wal-Mart, so he gets a discount, but I'm sure you know how it goes.  It's not a need basis; rather, "I see it, I want it, I buy it".  I have the same problem with books, made worse by the ease in which I can get them on my Nook Tablet.

So, the Hubs doesn't get paid until May 9th, but our mortgage payment comes out around the 3rd of the month and there are a slew of bills that get paid at the end of the month, so we were a little short.... OK, more than a little.  Our bank allows up to a $500 negative balance, including overdraft fees and our mortgage payment put us over that limit, so it didn't get paid (although we did still have an overdraft fee).  Hence, the flipping out.

I panicked.  I started looking for loans and so on, because I really don't want to lose our house, especially since we haven't been here a year yet.  Then I prayed.  I finally fell asleep, talked it out with the Hubs yesterday morning and by nightfall he had a plan.

Needless to say, I felt so much better today!  No panic, no loans... just a plan we were both happy with.  Plus, who can be upset on National Star Wars Day?!

Hoping this finds you in fine Jedi form, may I say: May the Fourth Be With You!

Cha-cha Changes

Here's the deal... I seem to be having an identity crisis.  (I'm bipolar - who knew?).  I am still planning on continuing the blog, but I'm making some changes.

There are a lot of good ideas out there and I'm just scratching the surface of the amazing things I can do with all my extra time.  That, and I'm mildly (OK, very) obsessed with Pinterest.

So the plan, as of tonight (it could change again, who knows - I'm a woman and bipolar, even I have trouble keeping up!) is to start in on some of the thousands of amazing things I've found via Pinterest, which lead to some interesting finds on blogs all across the Internet.

I'm going to go where others have gone before me and record my finding - kind of like a scientist.  As a quick disclaimer, none of the things I decide to create and share have originated from my creativity, unless I specifically mention it.  All the geniuses behind these creations will be noted following the run-down.

If you know of any blogs I should check out or recipes I should try... or if you have a Pinterest account full of gems, join up and comment! Tell your friends if you like what you see. If not, thanks for stopping by!

Epic Fail

Yesterday I decided to try a recipe I found on Pinterest: 2 Ingredient Cake.  To make, you take one box of strawberry cake mix and add 12 oz of 7-UP.  That's it.  No eggs or oil.  Just cake mix and 7-UP.  Then bake as directed on the box.

Some of you may know that I don't have the best track record with removing cakes from pans.  For those that don't, it's a notoriously bad habit I have that requires a bit of puzzle solving to put back together.  It's disastrous and this cake was no exception.

I had already mixed up the frosting I was planning on using on the cake and I didn't want to waste all the ingredients I used, so I had to do some quick thinking, as the cake was unsalvagable.  So I threw the cake pieces into the bowl with the homemade frosting and folded it all together.

My epic fail became:  cake pudding!  (It's like bread pudding, but with cake.)  So now you all know how to make cake pudding!

Puppies

This February has been one of great joy and sorrow.  As some of you know, we have 3 adult dogs in our house: 2 females and one male.  To our [not very much] surprise, both females became pregnant within weeks of each other.
On January 30, we were blessed with 2 beautiful baby girls from our oldest female, Padme.  Their names are Tenel Ka (we call her Tenel), who looks like a baby polar bear and has stolen our hearts, and STASS Allie (we call her Allie) who's our little brown bear and by far my favorite.
Just over a week later, our youngest (the puppy Santa blessed our daughter with 2 Christmas' ago) Mara Jade, gave birth to 2 puppies on February 9.  Their names were Han and Jaina Solo.
Mara clipped Han's umbilical cord too close and an abcess occurred, causing distress and we had to have him put down.  Han Solo struggles to live for 24 hours and will be missed. Jaina was a fighter.  She clung to life, attempted to nurse, but never grew.  We noticed an umbilical hernia a few days ago and were keeping an eye on it.  Unfortunately the hernia ruptured today and she sustained internal bleeding, causing her to pass on this evening.  She lived for 9 days and will also be missed terribly.
Please pray for our Mara, as she is struggling with the loss of her babies.  We have all suffered a great loss, but her more than any.  We will (hopefully) be holding a small memorial on Monday and burying them side-by-side.

Rest in Peace Han and Jaina Solo. Our time together was short, but your impact was great.

In Memoriam

I haven't had a lot to blog about since this journey began.  Just your typical crazy kids, crazy life story.

We had a birthday recently. Z turned the Big 1-0!  He's growing up so fast.  You never know what that phrase means until you have little ones of your own.  To a kid, you can't seem to grow up fast enough.

Which brings me to the topic of tonight.  As the month of January comes to an end, the anniversary of Z's daddy Alex approaches.  He will be 7 years in heaven on January 31.  It still boggles my mind that Z lost his Daddy Alex just after he turned 3.

Each year that passes, the anniversary of his death affects me differently.  Last year I could barely function the entire day, but this year I seem to be taking it in-stride.  It's not going to be "just another day" - but a day of happy remembrance.  I want good memories to fill the day.  I will be thankful that our troops have receded and are returning home.  I will be thankful that I have a beautiful, smart, kind boy who reminds me of his Daddy Alex.  I will have no regrets!

So, in memoriam: Daddy Alex, you are missed and loved every day we are apart.  I hope you are saving me a seat next to you at God's table.  We have a lot to catch up on!
